Traditions Anyplace Attraction By admin Posted on November 1, 2017 2 min read 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr Tradition Eleven—Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, films, television, and other public media of communication. A number of years ago, I read in our literature some suggestions for ways to anonymously carry the Overeaters Anonymous message to still suffering individuals who could benefit from our program. Well, I adopted a couple of those ideas. Whenever my husband and I eat out at a restaurant, I visit the restroom—even if I don’t need to use it. While there, I leave at least one New Prospect Card somewhere in the room. My favorite place to leave it is tucked into the edge of a mirror so that people washing their hands can see it. I’ve also left cards on top of toilet tissue dispensers. Along the way, I often wondered if anyone saw one and attended a meeting as a result. Recently, at one of my meetings, a newcomer was asked “How did you hear about Overeaters Anonymous?” Her response was, “You won’t believe this, but I found a card in the ladies’ room at a fast food restaurant last weekend.” I believed it! It was in that very restroom, around the time mentioned, that I had left an OA New Prospect Card. Another method I use is to visit the dieting section of my local library and insert New Prospect Cards as bookmarks for borrowers to find. There are lots of ways to carry our message and spread the word—without saying a word! — K.W.
