Everyone would follow the food plan of the most convincing or loudest member. There would be no world service, so groups would only be supported locally. Literature would not be developed and sourced from a central body, and groups would have no reason to meet and reach a consensus. Traditions would disappear because local groups would focus on what worked for them; they would not be open to other thinking. Unity keeps us open-minded and honest. It makes us willing to listen to and learn from others who share our compulsion. Unity causes us to extend the hand of friendship and heart of compassion. Unity is essential and vital to OA. — Rob N., Maryland USA
