Literature Sponsoring Working the Program Modified Study Guide By kmcguire@oa.org Posted on October 1, 2020 2 min read 0 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Share on Tumblr I wanted to share with the Fellowship how much I appreciate the Twelve Step Workshop and Study Guide and how I have used it. I started by reading it cover to cover. I was excited to learn that such a variety of our OA literature is referenced as well as the good old AA literature. When I came into OA in 1978 (and hit the jackpot for life, by the way), we relied on AA literature a lot, and now this wonderful Study Guide has given me an easy way to share that literature and work the Steps with sponsees. After reading the Study Guide, I knew I wanted to go through it with others, but since I don’t have time to conduct the full workshop, I’ve modified it to fit my schedule. Here’s what my sponsee and I do: We have a weekly, half-hour phone call. We use the opening as written in the Study Guide, including the three-minute meditation and the reading of the Twelve Steps. Then we continue where we left off the previous week. There is no homework; we do everything together during the call, including reading, writing, and discussing. We end each session with the “Abstinence Check-in” on page 11, followed by the OA Promise on page 17. I’m currently using the Study Guide in this way with two sponsees, during two separate calls. Both of them express gratitude for our time together. The structure is wonderful, and we are working through the Steps together. — Elaine
