We once had a large group. Slowly it got smaller until we were just two. We thought seriously of closing our meeting, but it was our time to get together (we’d even have supper after). So we continued to meet for several years. One day, three members who had dropped out of OA ten years earlier came back. We were there to greet them.

The two of us went to intergroup. We had a large intergroup, but slowly it got smaller until it was just the two of us. For a few years, we traveled to another city to meet—just the two of us. Finally, we decided to close the intergroup. I had been putting out a newsletter, and in the latest issue, I announced that the popular fall weekend workshop was cancelled and the next intergroup meeting would be its last. At that “last” intergroup meeting, members filled the room. Suddenly there were others to take over. We were there to greet them.

You never know when someone will need a meeting. Even if you don’t seem to be doing anything but occupying space, at least you are there to greet them.
