Life List

This Twelve Step program has saved my life. I have been maintaining a 50 pound (23 kg) weight release for thirty wonderful years and am at my ideal body weight. This is a miracle; generations of women in my family have suffered from food addiction and premature death.

I use slogans constantly to help keep me on track, and I’ve amassed a huge collection. Here are some:

  • Abstinence is a relief, not a punishment.
  • Act your way into right thinking.
  • After you take that first bite—phone!
  • Balance is better.
  • Be kind to your mind.
  • Counter contempt with civility.
  • Do the next right thing.
  • Eat light and feel right; eat right and feel light.
  • Get “good enough” abstinence.
  • If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
  • If you sleep for eight hours, you won’t eat for eight hours.
  • Just because you’re invited to an argument does not mean you have to attend.
  • Now we know, so now we grow.
  • Prayer is talking to HP; meditation is listening.
  • Quit stuffing your face and start facing your stuff.
  • Substitute fellowship for food.
  • The more you give, the more you get.
  • The sweetness you are looking for in life does not come from food.
  • When we know better, we do better.
